In Japanese, the word 'Kumihimo' means to gather or combine cord or thread. It is the traditional Japanese technique of braiding strands to create a strong, intricate & colourful cord. Historically, the Samurai used Kumihimo cords as both a functional & decorative way to lace their armour and their horses' armour.
 
Made from cotton, the cords measure approx 3mm wide and are adjustable in length so you are able to tie the ends to suit your preferred size.
 
You also have the option of a hand stamped 9mm mini disc or heart with your chosen initial or design stamp (from the Font Board pictured (The bracelet & mini discs/hearts in the picture are stamped with the 1.5mm mixed case font). These are available in Sterling Silver, Rose Gold Filled or Gold Filled. Please leave a note at checkout with your initial choice.
 
Although the single colour bracelets are extremely popular, you can also make your very own own colour mix. The method of braiding Kumihimo from many strands creates endless possibilities of colour combinations so you don't have to choose just one colour. I use 7 strands for this cord, so if you wanted to you are able to pick up to 7 different colours. As an example, the bracelet pictured is a mix of 3 pale green & 4 pale blue. 
 
As there is such a large selection of colours available, please feel free to message me prior to ordering with your preferred colour ideas and I can send you the colours I currently have in stock. If you need something specific or are working to a colour scheme for a special occasion, I can buy in a specific colour or the closest match possible that you need. 
Otherwise you can just add a note for example: "baby blue" or "emerald green" and I will choose the colour i think best suits.
